This story was first published in a book written during the days of colonialism, although the author of the story only translated it from an Arabic source.

It has been rearranged by Danjuma Katsina and put in a form that our readers will enjoy reading. He used some available research material be had named Fasadi a Kasar Hausa for use as synonyms to some words.

There lived a very stubborn man in Katsina called Daudu who was also known as ‘gobe Allah ke yi’ (God does it tomorrow). He was the most morally decadent and immoral person in Katsina then. He never took committing of sins as anything in life. Everyone stared clear of him due to level of shamelessness. He had been arrested, punished and released severally but he never changed his ways. Whenever he is preached to he would turn the other way and say ‘gobe Allah ke yi’ (It is God that does it tomorrow).

On his own one day, he went to the then king of Katsina begging to be provided with the medicine by which he would stop committing sin any more.

The king asked him to go and come back the next day in the morning. When he came, the king ordered that a big pan be filled with water. He then asked the head of the king’s knights to stand by him with a very sharp sword. He instructed that Daudu carries the big pan of water on his head round the town and ensure that no water drops out of the big pan. He also instructed that should any drop of water falls to the ground in the process of walking round the town, the knight should cut of the head of Daudu. Everyone at the king’s palace listened to the king’s instructions telling the knight to either bring him back alive if he does not drop any water or bring his dead body back for funerals.

When Daudu left along with the knight, there fist stop was at the gay club where they were busy clubbing and having fun with live music performances provided by the likes of Idi Mai Gurmi and Dan Ade Mai Kutugi. Suddenly, all eyes turned on Daudu and the knight holding the sharp sword waiting to see a drop water falls so that he cuts off the head of Daudu.

They them moved to the next point, a popular brothel where the likes of Abu Mai Jigida were in charge. There were new arrivals of prostitutes at the brothel then, the likes of Talked Mai Sitiyari who were celebrated. The likes of Hashimu Direba were looking at which to take in as his personal sex worker. Suddenly, all eyes turned on Daudu and the knight holding the sharp sword waiting to see a drop water falls so that he cuts off the head of Daudu.

From there they moved to the club of gamblers where the likes of Lawali a lale kati were busy gambling holding a smoking sigarette by the lips. The likes of Dogo Hada Husuma Shine Bariki were busy then. Suddenly, all eyes turned on Daudu and the knight holding the sharp sword waiting to see a drop water falls so that he cuts off the head of Daudu.

From there they moved to the beer parlour of Andurus which was the biggest then. He was an Igbo man that first brought beer parlour to Katsina. There were a lot of drunken persons there all in “cloud seven” then. Suddenly, all eyes turned on Daudu and the knight holding the sharp sword waiting to see a drop water falls so that he cuts off the head of Daudu.

They visited all the points where sins were literally committed round the town. They returned to the king’s palace later in the evening. The palace was filled with people waiting to see what will happen. The big pan of water was then removed from Daudu’s head and placed on the ground. Immediately, Daudu fell to the ground and fainted. He woke up at sunset and the king ordered that he took a shower and eat to fully recover to normalcy.

Late the king called him and asked how the walk they had with the knight later in the day was. The king said “I heard that you visited such and such places” and Daudu said he didn’t know where they visited. Wherever the king said he heard that they visited Daudu would say he didn’t know they went there during the walk round the town.

The king the asked why he didn’t know where they went. Daudu then explained that the only thing he concentrated  on was to make sure no drop of water fell from the pan so that his head would not be cut off by the knight that was closely by him. The king then smiled.

Daudu said he asked for the medicine that would stop him from commiting sins but was pushed instead. The king then answered that Daudu was given the medicine practically. He told Daudu “if you were to live by the lessons you learnt from the trek round the town and always remember that the Angel of death was waiting by you to take your life at any moment then you will be relieved of sinning henceforth in life”.

From that time on, Daudu changed into a better, responsible, well discipline and morally upright person. He died as a man of God, worshipping and giving sermons to people.
